Skin Conditions

Diagnosis: Acne can be an inherent, genetic condition or can be caused by external factors, such as hormonal fluctuations, stress, medications, hot or humid climates and irritating cosmetic ingredients. It is a chronic inflammatory disorder caused by fast cell turnover, fast oil flow and an abnormality in the cell division where cells flatten out too early and stick to the sides of the oil glands and hair shafts. If left untreated, congestion can advance to acne.

Solution: Stabilise the skin and regulate the dysfunctions that contribute to the acne condition by removing blockages within the ducts and regulating oil flow and cell turnover. Diagnosis: Cellulite occurs through poor circulation and poor lymphatic drainage which cause fat cells to become engorged. These fat cells then push against the connective tissue beneath a person’s skin to cause the surface of the skin to dimple or pucker and look lumpy.  Oestrogen stimulates collagenase formation in the skin’s connective tissues. Collagenase breaks down the connective tissue, weakening collagen and causing fat to bulge upward to form a lumpy surface. It is typically caused by factors such as genetics, hormones, hypothyroidism, lack of exercise, poor blood circulation and lymphatics.

Diagnosis: Folliculitis is an inflammation in the hair follicle, characterised by follicular papules, red raised bumps and pustules. Folliculitis and ingrown hairs are the result of a dysfunctional process inside the hair follicle. Blockages stop the natural flow in the follicle, trapping bacteria and potentially causing infection and inflammation.

Solution: DMK treatment dissolves the hair and accumulation of dead cell material, which releases the follicle, addresses infection, strengthens the skin and in turn, reduces any remaining redness and inflammation.

Diagnosis: Open pores typically develop as a result of blocked pores, insufficient free water levels within the skin and an accumulation of dead cell material which cement onto the top of the skin and clump up inside the follicle. This is characterised by an orange peel, open pore appearance.

Diagnosis: Pigmentation occurs in two different forms; passive and inflammatory. Inflammatory pigmentation occurs as a result of the activation of our skin’s natural defense mechanisms. Melanin moves up to defend against trauma caused by factors such as sun exposure, poor products or injury.

Passive pigmentation results from an internal imbalance which stimulates the melanin stimulating hormone. These imbalances can be caused by pregnancy, hormonal imbalances, the contraceptive pill and various medications.

Solution: DMK revises pigmentation,  brightens and refreshes the skin by removing dead cell build up, the accumulation of melanin (dark patches) and suppresses further melanin production by inhibiting the enzyme tyrosinase in the skin. Diagnosis: Premature ageing, as characterised by symptoms such as pigmentation, sun spots, fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin, is effectively a loss of structural integrity within the skin. As we age, the skin’s matrix becomes thin and the skin loses its bounce. Ultraviolet exposure speeds up this process by disrupting the normal architecture of connective tissue within the dermis. UV decreases collagen and elastin and alters the cross linked structure of collagen and elastin fibres within the dermal extracellular matrix. Abnormal material containing elastin and fibrillin accumulates and appears to occupy areas of lost collagen: this is called solar elastosis.

Solution: As premature ageing and sun-damage is a result of structural destruction and deterioration in the normal functioning of skin, DMK approach this condition by revising old and damaged tissue, rebuilding the skin and facilitating optimal function. Diagnosis: We are led to believe that skin is fragile and sensitive. But skin is a strong organ designed to protect us, it has an amazing ability to regenerate itself. Skin is not sensitive; it is merely reactive when the internal processes are out of balance. Trans epidermal water loss (TEWL) is one of the main causes of skin becoming reactive. Water is essential for healthy skin. Skin with good free water levels is soft and supple, reflects a healthy glow and ages less quickly.

Solution: Most treatments for sensitive skin attempt to calm the skin and reduce the redness. DMK re-balance the skin using barrier repair therapy to increase free water levels, as well as calming and soothing the skin. When the skin is brought back into homeostasis it ceases to be reactive.

Diagnosis: Many clients come to us after using ineffective scar treatment products which work topically rather than remodelling the skin back to form a firm, flat surface. Following the occurrence of acne, lacerations or injuries, the skin forms new cells. When these new cells develop either too quickly (hypotropic scar) or too slowly (cuneiform scar), a scar forms.

Solution: Scar revision cannot be achieved by merely rubbing a crème onto the surface of the skin. Diagnosis: Stretch marks or ‘striae’ are a form of a scar resulting in white or silvery scar tissue typically in the breast, abdomen and thigh area. Stretch marks most commonly result when the skin stretches rapidly due to rapid growth or weight gain, pregnancy, muscle building or puberty.
